A courier route has two important moments: when an item leaves one person's care and when it enters another's. The time between them matters, but those handoffs are what make the journey accountable.

Make pickup specific

A useful pickup record identifies when the item was collected and where responsibility changed hands. It should also help the team distinguish a completed pickup from a driver who merely arrived.

Confirm the receiving point

At delivery, the record should show that the item reached the intended destination and was accepted through the agreed process. Teams should not have to infer that from a location ping alone.

Record exceptions clearly

If the destination is closed or the recipient is unavailable, that result should be visible quickly. The next action may be a new attempt, a return, or a call to the sending team; leaving it ambiguous makes the delivery harder to resolve.

Keep the record useful

The goal is a concise, reliable account of the delivery, with access limited to the people who need it. More notes are not always better. The right details are the ones that help a care team answer a concrete question.

Clear handoffs turn a completed trip into a delivery the sender and receiver can trust.
